Mayu Iwasaki is an award-winning bilingual Japanese actress, puppeteer, and writer who is currently based in Sydney. As an actor, she has appeared in a number of theatrical productions on international stages including Tokyo, New York, Chicago, and Sydney (NToP, NIDA and Seymour Centre). Recently she made her Sydney Theatre Company debut in the award-winning play White Pearl. She is a graduate of David Mamet’s Atlantic Theatre Conservatory, she trained and worked extensively with the SITI Company in New York where she discovered her passion for physical theatre.

In 2017 Mayu first appeared on Australian television as the lead character in the Top Knot Detective on SBS. Mayu has been collaborating with several theatres and arts & community organizations internationally as a cultural advisor, playwright, translator and movement director. In 2020, Mayu is developing an episodic comedic puppet TV show for the screen for children between 3-6 years old based on Japanese folklore. Mayu is currently under commission to write a play for the Terrapin Puppet Theatre company. She has a great passion to create a show that is able to bridge those cultural differences and bypass language barriers.

She is also a co-founder of eco-friendly stargazing resort called Bubbletent Australia and lived an alternate life in the off-grid Australian bush for the past 2 years.
